The iconic psychological thriller by Peter Shaffer, EQUUS, is coming to Johannesburg and Edgars Club members get 10% off tickets. Since 1973, this gripping production with its controversial storyline and provocative performance, has created a stir amongst theatre goers.
EQUUS is based on a fascinating and startlingly true story. It creates a fictional account of psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart’s task of uncovering the motive behind teenager, Alan Strang’s, pathological fascination that has led him to brutally blind six horses. In the process of treating him, Dysart gets caught up in Alan’s warped sense of spirituality, passion and sexuality and begins to question his own sanity and motivations.
You might remember the recent performance of Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe as Alan, or the earlier performances of Anthony Hopkins and Leonard Nimoy as Dr. Dysart.
Whether this is the first time you’re hearing about it or if you’re part of its cult following, either way, it is a must-see that brilliantly showcases our local talent.
